Wanderlusting

Wanderlusting

By Emily on May 9, 2014

I had one of those dreams last night that seemed really vivid at the time, although now I can’t really remember much about it. I woke up around 6:30, when the world was still half-dark but the birds were starting to chirp. In the dream, I had decided to go to Amsterdam. I was trying […]

Reminiscing: Holiday in Spain (part 1, Madrid)

By Emily on February 8, 2013

I may have a future as an archivist after all, since apparently I’ve gotten more comfortable with always having a backlog I just keep slogging through. By this I mean, I’ve caught up on Flickr uploads…through 2011! Success? One of the really fun parts about going through old photos is reminiscing about fun times, creative […]

Pulling from the Pensieve

By Emily on July 20, 2012

Ironic that my last post, about finding the time to prioritize writing, was written six weeks ago. It’s quite possibly been the busiest six weeks of my life. Handed over board president reins after a hectic, but I think fairly successful, year. Three weeks in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Sweden. One last week of working. […]

I got 99 problems but a blog ain’t one

By Emily on February 7, 2012

(yep, I went there.) Somehow, I managed to post 99 times in 2011. That’s kind of incredible to me. And I spent most of the time thinking that I wasn’t getting around to posting often enough, feeling that nagging blogger impulse to start off a third of my posts with an apology. But those are […]

Travel in your future

Ticket to fly

By Emily on August 4, 2011

I bought a plane ticket to Madrid. After months and months of talking about it, thinking about it, planning a trip and then having to reconsider, daily Kayak email alerts about rising and falling fares, I finally bit the bullet and bought a ticket to Spain for this fall. It took a bonus at work […]

Memory keeping

Memory keeping

By Emily on May 19, 2011

What’s the number one project you want to do but never seem to find time for? Bonus points if it’s overwhelming, expensive (especially if you buy supplies for it even when you’re not doing it), time consuming, or takes up a lot of physical space. For me, it’s scrapbooking. Or travel art journaling. Or whatever […]

Photographer Crush: France Ruffenach

Photographer Crush: France Ruffenach

By Emily on September 7, 2010

As promised, I have the first Photographer Crush in the series. This time around, I’m featuring the incredible work of France Ruffenach. Because I wasn’t really anticipating this series, I can’t remember where I heard about her – but I am smitten with her beautiful diptychs. Isn’t there an art to creating great diptychs? Most […]

About Me

photo of miamired I like writing, photography, reading, music, design, typography, paper products, days in the seventies and sparkly snow, Spanish wine and cans of PBR. I spent a year in Córdoba, Spain, working as a language and culture assistant through the Spanish government, traveling, and writing about it here. After a few years back in my home state of Montana, I moved to Austin, Texas, where I like to go exploring, take pictures of my food, write letters, dream of far-off places, and think about concepts of home.
