Happy birthday, Clifford!

Happy birthday, Clifford!

By Emily on September 22, 2012

Perhaps not surprisingly, seeing as how my name is Emily Elizabeth, I was a fan of the Clifford books growing up. This year, he turns 50! There’s something so special for a kid about seeing his or her name in writing. This invitation to participate in a new world of narratives. For a long time, […]

Travel in your future

By Emily on September 30, 2011

“The idea of having travel in your future is like having a book that you haven’t read by an author who you love.” – Paul Theroux One month til takeoff. (from NPR’s Talk of the Nation)

30 Days of Creativity: Day 8

By Emily on June 9, 2011

Kinda missed my deadline on this one. Spent most of the evening facilitating others’ creativity (and at times my own) via a board meeting at the arts education center I work with – fueling the creativity machine in one way or another! I was thinking yesterday about the little ways we insert creativity into our […]

And a […]

An ode to the personal letter

By Emily on March 10, 2010

“An elegy is a mournful, melancholic or plaintive poem, especially a funeral song or a lament for the dead.” – Wikipedia Although I have been somewhat neglectful of letter writing lately, I’m now trying to get back into it – a goal which is helped enormously by the coming of spring and summer, as few […]

About Me

photo of miamired I like writing, photography, reading, music, design, typography, paper products, days in the seventies and sparkly snow, Spanish wine and cans of PBR. I spent a year in Córdoba, Spain, working as a language and culture assistant through the Spanish government, traveling, and writing about it here. After a few years back in my home state of Montana, I moved to Austin, Texas, where I like to go exploring, take pictures of my food, write letters, dream of far-off places, and think about concepts of home.
