The Goldilocks of art

By Emily on May 31, 2015

I firmly believe that nothing makes a space yours like art. While I generally take a little time to settle in and feel things out, I try to get art on the walls within the first few months of moving into a new place – and no, I don’t worry too much about putting holes […]

Waking up

By Emily on April 20, 2011

“If a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it’s as though I’ve neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up.” –Richard Avedon I came across this quote in a photography magazine a few weeks ago and, like some things are prone to do, it has […]

Papercuts

Papercuts

By Emily on October 19, 2010

There are few things, in the entire world, that I love more than paper. I’ve always felt that way. And so when people scoff at the traditional 1 year wedding anniversary gift – paper – I only begin to think of the possibilities. So many lovely, thoughtful paper gifts out there. When I saw these […]

Blog bacn

Blog bacn

By Emily on September 4, 2010

Did you read about Google’s new “prioritized inbox” concept? I’m still waiting for the link to appear on my Gmail pages, because lately I have been drowning in what I didn’t know was called “bacn” until Google vaulted the term into the national conversation with their announcement. Basically, bacn isn’t spam – it’s things you […]

Let the sun shine in!

By Emily on June 25, 2010

After weeks and weeks of blah, rainy weather, we’ve finally had some beautiful, sunny days that feel like summer. And I am so ready for summer! This weekend, I want to finish a couple of painting projects, put away a million things at the house, hang some art, and wash the outside of the windows. […]

Blog overload (and a little daily beauty)

By Emily on February 10, 2009

I must admit that until about a year and a half ago, I didn’t pay any attention to blogs. I had read about the Huffington Post and some of the other big hitters, but never actually read them. To be honest, I didn’t really understand why normal people would write blogs—most people don’t have genuinely […]

About Me

photo of miamired I like writing, photography, reading, music, design, typography, paper products, days in the seventies and sparkly snow, Spanish wine and cans of PBR. I spent a year in Córdoba, Spain, working as a language and culture assistant through the Spanish government, traveling, and writing about it here. After a few years back in my home state of Montana, I moved to Austin, Texas, where I like to go exploring, take pictures of my food, write letters, dream of far-off places, and think about concepts of home.
