I arrived into town a bit before midnight last night, so today has been a game of catch up. I had a wonderful time and did so many things I was hoping to do in Seattle – shopping, wandering, eating, drinking, dancing. Most importantly, catching up and reuniting with old friends. I’m looking forward to going through my photos in the next couple of days.
It’s so interesting stepping into other people’s spaces – whether the super modern bachelor apartment or the cozy Mission style place with the interesting paint and the big paned windows. It always gets me thinking a lot about my own space, what I put on the wall and why. There’s this huge disconnect between what we see in magazines and catalogs and the spaces in which we actually live – I’m not sure I’d want to live in a space as cookie cutter and personality deprived as a catalog page, but seeing other people’s 20something apartments, how they deal with the college to “real life” divide – it’s fascinating. I haven’t felt this motivated to clean since the last time I watched Hoarders.
Thought I’d post these photos of one of my favorite things, a huge square canvas painting I found years ago sitting next to a dumpster, getting snowed on. It was the largest of about 5 canvases, and although I pulled all of them inside for a while, this is the only one I’ve kept. It’s not professional or fancy or worth much, I’d guess – but it’s just one of the little things that makes my house, as flawed as it may sometimes be, a home and one I look forward to coming home to.
Time to finally put away the Halloween decorations and work on getting back to reality. Looks like it’s going to snow all week.
