Did you read about Google’s new “prioritized inbox” concept? I’m still waiting for the link to appear on my Gmail pages, because lately I have been drowning in what I didn’t know was called “bacn” until Google vaulted the term into the national conversation with their announcement. Basically, bacn isn’t spam – it’s things you actually think you want, just not at the moment. All of those promotional emails, facebook updates, really great flight deals – they go untouched in my inbox for days, and sometimes just never get read. But I’m not ready to let them go (unless they start sending too many weekly emails – then they are spam). At the same time, opening one of your four or five email accounts to see thousands of unread emails isn’t exactly a day brightener, either.
I’m curious if the concept will transfer to other Google applications – I wouldn’t mind a prioritized Google Reader, either. I have a handful of daily, go to reads. A few that I abandon over time, and eventually I unsubscribe. But then there are the others – the blog bacn – that I only get to every once in a while. When I do, I enjoy them. In the meantime, I wish they didn’t cloud up my quick morning GR scan.
One of those feeds is Urban Sketchers. I’m consistently impressed by the quality of the work, and so yearn to be able to draw half as well as most of the artists. But the layout is a little clunky, the writing really poorly edited. I need to take it in big doses. I’m hoping to have a chance to do just that this weekend.
In the meantime, here are some sketches that have caught my eye lately. I’m curious – what’s one skill that you envy in others and totally lack yourself?
